The Dust From Our Eyes

Cristina Peck: My little girl died with red shoelaces on. She hated red shoelaces. And she kept asking me to get her some blue ones. And I never got her the blue ones. She was wearing those fucking red shoelaces when she was killed!

-21 Grams

I've had a lame-fuck week and I don't really feel like typing. I'm in a bad mood for no particular reason. I just watched 21 Grams and that sure as hell doesn't put anybody in a cheerful mood. Naomi Watts made me shit my pants the first time I saw that movie. She's really good.

I wrote down three words in my planner this week to remind myself what to blog about. "Lost", "Movies", "Spanish". Again, I don't really feel like typing much so I'll sum up in one run-on sentence: I had to drive to Grapevine to see a movie that wasn't playing in Denton and I got lost and ended up at the DFW airport and called my mom thinking that she could somehow guide me back through google map and I almost had a panic attack, I saw 4 movies this week, and my spanish teacher probably thinks I'm a lousy student. The end.

Like I said, I saw four movies this week --

Stranger Than Fiction was a dissapointment. It was a unique story, sure...but I was waiting for something spectacular to happen and it never did. I hated the ending and those people who are talking Oscar-buzz for Will Ferrell only because he played a normal guy should shut the fuck up because anybody could have played that role -- and probably better. It's one of those movies that everyone loves except me, so you don't have to take my word for it. Worth a rent, I'd say.
Fiction

Running With Scissors was pretty bad. The book is my favorite book of all time. Disturbing, funny, sad, honest, all that good stuff. The movie was one of the worst executed I've seen all year. The director tried way too hard and I was going to barf if I had to sit through another music montage featuring a popular song from the 70s. They also ruined it by making Augusten older. Evan Rachel Woods was the best thing about this movie. (even though she's thin and her character in the book is fat)
Scissors

The Departed was excellent. It was a bit long and I dozed off for a few moments, but it totally delivered. A great, great movie.
Departed

Babel was not only the best movie I saw this week, but one of the best I've ever seen. I'm a big fan of 21 Grams and Amores Perros and Babel is the last of IƱarritu's (the director) trilogy. All three films are similar in that they revolve around one incident and how it connects completely different people. Everyone's talking Oscar-buzz about Brad Pitt. He was surprisingly good, but I thought the film was stolen by the actress who plays Chieko, a sexually frustrated deaf-mute Japanese schoolgirl. So great. Go see this movie!!!!

Here are a few pictures from this weekend when my parents came to visit:

Laura had gallbladder surgery last week and was recovering. "I lost my gallbladder but I got bangs!" -- Laura, after getting her hair done.

Kevin got stuck helping my dad fix this light. I hate doing house-projects with my dad.

Right after this was taken Riley attacked my mother's face. jk.

I finally went to the doctor because I was sick. Turned out I had bronchitis and a minor middle-ear infection. Fun! These were all the meds I were on. That cough syrup was like ecstacy.

He just looked cute.

Kimberly was lame and had to stay in College Station to study. Loser!
