The Wonderful Fog

Chastity: I know you can be under whelmed, and you can be overwhelmed, but can you ever just be, like, whelmed?

- 10 Things I Hate About You

I think the only thing keeping me awake and able to write right now is the muted pulsing of techno music emanating from my walls thanks to my upstairs neighbors. To say that I hate my upstairs neighbors' antics would be a prodigious understatement. Every Thursday night they feel the need to open their dresser drawers and closets repeatedly, flush the toilet about once every 5 minutes, blast their dreadful music, and stomp the floor. The worst thing is beeing able to hear them urinate above you at 7am while getting ready for classes every morning. At least I know I'm back in Denton!

I just flew in tonight from spending my weekend in San Antonio. There are always perks of returning home like never having to pay for a meal when I go out to dinner with the family, the familiarity of my old bed, the wider spaces of my house, and stealing my mom's last box of girl scout Samoas to stash in my duffel before departure to Denton. The main highlights were seeing Mary and Brittany pleased with their Valentine's Day slideshow I made for them on a CD and spending last night at Alex's boyfriends' house playing Balderdash and laughing hysterically at our wine-induced stupidity.

It was a gratifying retreat from my almost non-existant life in Denton. I'm not sure if it's the fact that Denton is such a dead and depressing city that I feel like my social life parallels it, or the fact that I suddenly became somewhat of a recluse; never having a strong desire to leave my own apartment and live my life like I do in San Antonio. But I feel like if I weren't here studying what I love, I'd feel like a useless waste of space. I hope I can find an agreeable medium between private and social life sometime soon...I just miss my buddies at home so much!

If you didn't notice already, I haven't mentioned that it's been almost a month since my last post. This past week has been nothing but exhausting and I hope that I'm able to find more time to write. I've been reading books for leisure lately too and that may be another excuse for my absence. I finished up Jarhead by Anthony Swofford, and am almost done with The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. (I recommend both strongly) Next: The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger.

Here are a few pictures from the past couple of weeks...nothing that great. Enjoy!
